Health and Physical Education

​​​​​​The curriculum helps students to be resilient, to make decisions and take actions to promote their own and others‘ health, wellbeing and physical activity participation across their lifespan.

Junior Secondary

This is a compulsory subject in years 7-10, and forms part of the Australian National Curriculum.  It teaches students how to enhance their own and others’ health, safety, wellbeing and physical activity participation in varied and changing contexts. Students obtain knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage satisfying relationships. Movement is a powerful medium for learning, through which students can acquire, practise and refine personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills

Senior Secondary

​Our senior subjects allow students in year 11 and 12 to undertake an ATAR/General, Applied or VET pathway.

General

Physical Educ​a​tion​​​

Involves students learning in, about and through physical activity. Physical Education focuses on the complex interrelationships between motor learning, psychological, biomechanical, physiological and sociological factors that influence individual and team physical performances, together with the wider social attitudes and understandings of physical activity.

Applied

Sport & Recreation​​​

Aims to develop student's knowledge of leisure and the Sport and Recreation field. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills that encourage lifelong participation in sport and develop leadership skills in the Sport and Recreation field. Recreation also allows students to increase awareness and understanding of the role leisure and recreation play in the community.

Early Childhood Studies​

 Early Childhood Studies focuses on students learning about children aged from birth to five years through early childhood education and care.  The course of study involves learning about ideas related to the fundamentals and industry practices in early childhood learning​.

​VET

SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation 

Allows students to gain knowledge and skills associated with the Sport & Recreation industry, with a specific emphasis on coaching.  It is designed for people seeking a career pathway into the Sport & Recreation industry.

SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness 

Allows students to gain knowledge and skills associated with the Fitness and training.  Students plan and deliver fitness programs within the school community, catering to a range of clients.  It is designed for people seeking a career pathway into the Fitness industry.  (External RTO provider- Binnacle Training RTO 31319).

​Ipswich SHS, as Third Party, will be providing training and assessment services on behalf of Binnacle Training (RTO Code 31319).

HLT23221 Certificate II in Health Support Services

Allows students to gain an understanding of the Health Industry.  It will provide students with a basic understanding of the skills reflecting the role of workers who provide support for the effective functioning of health services.  Tasks are completed under supervision involving known routines and procedures in collaboration with others in a team environment. (External RTO provider- Connect 'n' Grow).

Ipswich SHS, as Third Party, will be providing training and assessment services on behalf of Connect 'n' Grow (RTO Code 40518).​

HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance​​

​​This qualification reflects the role of a variety of workers who use a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to health professional staff for the care of clients. Students will gain a range of entry-level skills that will enhance their ability to gain employment within the health industry (External RTO provider- Connect 'n' Grow).

Ipswich SHS, as Third Party, will be providing training and assessment services on behalf of Connect 'n' Grow (RTO Code 40518).
