Junior Secondary
All students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 have the opportunity to choose the elective subject in Business Studies.
Year 7 and 8 students are able to select Business Studies for one semester in year 7 and again for one semester in year 8 as part of their compulsory Technology curriculum offering. The course gives foundation knowledge and skills in the business skills.
In year 9 & 10 students are able to build on the foundation skills and knowledge and choose Business Studies elective for a whole year.
Senior Secondary
Students can elect to study Business courses in years 11 and 12. Courses available include ATAR/General subjects.
GENERAL
Accounting
Accounting plays a vital role in the business world. This subject will prepare students for future education, training and employment in the business area. This course will provide students with a basic understanding of accounting principles and applications for the real world.
The core topics include: accounting process to trial balance, end of period reports, recording and controls (including cash, accounts receivable/payable, inventories, non-current assets, e-business), reporting and decision making (including cash flows, cash budgets, ratios) and computer accounting package. Accounting is an Authority subject.
Business Studies
Business Studies provides opportunities for students to develop practical business knowledge
and skills for use, participation and work in a range of business contexts. Students develop their business knowledge and understanding through
applying business practices in business contexts, such as retail, health services, entertainment,
tourism, travel and mining. Schools may offer a range of situations and experiences to engage
in authentic learning experiences through connections within the school, local community
or organisations, businesses and professionals outside of the school.
