English helps students develop the communication, literacy, and critical thinking skills needed for everyday life, future study, and the workplace. Through the study of novels, film, media, poetry, and a range of real-world texts, students learn to read, analyse, create, and communicate effectively for different audiences and purposes. English also encourages creativity, collaboration, and the ability to think critically about ideas, perspectives, and the world around them.

Junior Secondary

In Years 7, 8 and 9 all students study English.

These years focus on building strong foundations in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing. Students explore a range of literary and non-literary texts while developing confidence in comprehension, analysis, and communication. Learning experiences encourage students to think critically, express ideas clearly, and engage with increasingly complex texts and concepts.

The curriculum is designed to strengthen students' literacy skills while fostering creativity, imagination, and independent thinking.

Senior Secondary

In the senior phase of schooling, students have the opportunity to select the English pathway that best suits their strengths, interests, and future goals.

The Year 10 curriculum provides pathway options suitable for students with differing abilities, interests, and future study or career plans. Students can select from EAL English Prep, Literature Prep, General English Prep, or Essential English Prep in preparation for their senior pathway.

In Years 11 and 12, students may study General English, Literature, English as an Additional Language (EAL), or Essential English depending on their chosen pathway.
