Letter from The Principal
Respect and Responsibility Beyond the School Gate
Welcome back to Term 4. I hope our students and families enjoyed a safe and refreshing spring break. We have commenced the term by recognising Queensland Mental Health Week, with a range of activities encouraging connection, kindness and positive wellbeing across our school. These activities provide a timely reminder of the importance of looking after ourselves and one another.
This fortnight I have also spoken with students on our Junior and Senior Secondary parades about an important message: our values of Respect and Responsibility do not stop at the school gate.
The overwhelming majority of our students conduct themselves safely and respectfully as they travel to and from school each day. Unfortunately, during Term 3 we also received regular concerns from community members about the behaviour of a small number of students on public transport and in our local community.
When wearing our uniform, students are readily identifiable as members of Ipswich State High School. Their actions contribute not only to their own reputation, but also to the reputation of our entire school community.
I have encouraged students to think of their reputation as something valuable and worth protecting. Small choices matter – paying your public transport fare, treating others respectfully, looking after property, making safe choices and showing consideration for others.
We ask parents and caregivers to reinforce these messages at home. Our young people should understand that travelling to and from school is another opportunity to demonstrate their character and our shared values.
Together, we want our community to see the Ipswich State High School uniform and associate it with respectful, responsible and decent young people.

Executive Principal

Fortnightly Focus
Welcome back to Term 4! Our first Focus of the Fortnight for the Term is Respect: “I will start and finish strong by being a respectful member of our school community.”
As we begin the term, we’re encouraging students to show respect through their everyday actions, from listening to others and using kind words to arriving ready to learn and caring for our shared spaces.
Every lesson, every interaction and every day is an opportunity to make a positive contribution. Let’s start the term strong and carry that effort through to the end!
