Letter from The Principal

As our school community continues to navigate what has been a very difficult and emotional time, it is important that we ensure strong supports are in place for our students.

I am pleased to share that, after a short period of absence this year, Ipswich State High School has welcomed two new ICYS Youth Support Coordinators, Ms Tamara Daley and Ms Theresa Murphy, who commenced on Friday 20 March. Both bring extensive experience and a deep commitment to supporting young people, and we are grateful to have them join our community at this time.

Ipswich SHS has proudly partnered with ICYS for 29 years. This longstanding partnership provides our students with access to highly skilled Youth Support Coordinators, as well as a broader network of services that support wellbeing, connection and positive life pathways.

Tamara and Theresa are based in K Block and are available to support students as needed. Students can access this support through their Year Level Team, Deputy Principal, Head of Department, Student Support Officer or Guidance Officer, or they may self-refer by visiting K Block Reception (KC10).

We thank ICYS for their continued partnership and encourage all members of our community to look out for and support one another.

Student Absences – Keeping Us Informed

If your child is absent from school, please ensure you notify us as soon as possible. This helps us maintain accurate records and, most importantly, supports your child's safety and wellbeing.

Parents and carers can report absences using one of the following methods:

  • Daymap App: our preferred and most convenient option
  • Email: absence@ipswichshs.eq.edu.au
  • SMS: 0429 460 206 (must be sent from a parent/guardian's registered mobile number)

If emailing or using an SMS please state the name of the student, year level and reason for the absence.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep our students safe, accounted for, and ready to engage in their learning.

Have your say, newsletter feedback

We’re seeking your feedback on our school newsletter.

As part of our ongoing approach to improving communication, we are reviewing two key areas: how often the newsletter is sent, and the type of content it includes.

Our current focus is on ensuring the newsletter is clear, useful and relevant for families, particularly in how we share upcoming information. We are exploring whether a fully forward focused approach works best, or if a balance of forward information with some celebration is preferred.

This short survey is multiple choice and will only take a moment to complete. Your feedback will directly inform how we shape the newsletter moving forward.

We appreciate your time and input as we continue to strengthen how we communicate with our community. Submit your response here: ISHS Newsletter Feedback

Changes to 5269 Bus Route

Please note a change to morning bus route 5269.

Route 5269 (AM) will now start from Kruger Parade. Students who previously caught the 5269 from Collingwood Drive or Duncan Street will need to catch route 5237 to Ipswich State High School instead.

Please plan accordingly to ensure a smooth journey to school.

Consent forms will be sent home and must be returned, even if you choose not to vaccinate at school. Read more here

Fortnightly Focus

Our final Focus of the Fortnight for the term centres on Responsibility.

As we move towards the end of term, this focus reminds our students to finish strong by taking pride in their spaces and their learning. Something as simple as tidying up your classroom reflects respect for others and ownership of your environment.

We would like to thank our students for the way they have continued to demonstrate our school values of Respect and Responsibility throughout the term. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and contribute to a positive and supportive school community for everyone.

Let's finish the term strong, together.
