The Hair and Beauty programme was established in 2009 and continues to go from strength to strength. The Ipswich State High School is the only school in Australia with a retail trading outlet located within the Trade Training Centre on Vogel Road, Brassall (3281 7508). The students are rostered one day a month, this allows students to gain real industry experience while working on paying clientele.
In 2014, The Ipswich State High School won a Queensland State Showcase Award for “Excellence in Innovation” for the hair and beauty program. This award put The Ipswich State High School on the map as a school of excellence in hair and beauty.
All students who decide to continue or apply for employment within the hair and beauty industry have a 100% success rate in gaining employment or a position in their chosen educational pathway. The hair and beauty industry are contacting the school continuously for students who would like to continue their career in this field.
We encourage students to explore a career path that allows them to receive credit towards a diploma or other higher level qualification after graduation. The Hair and Beauty programme strongly encourages students to seek school based apprenticeships in their chosen field.
The Hair and Beauty programme gives back to the community by working with local retailers, primary schools, employment agencies and the school community by offering services at a reduced price. The Hair and Beauty programme also showcases students work in term three at Riverlink Shopping Centre which highlights the students work in a catwalk fashion parade. Family and friends are encouraged to join their students along with the general public to see the students amazing creations.
As part of their final assessment students create a ‘total look’, which includes, hair, makeup, nails and costume. Students work is then showcased in our school hall and once again family and friends are encourage to come along and see their students work.
The Hair and Beauty programme has excellent relationships with industry these include, L’Oreal, Dateline Imports, Norris Hair Ipswich, Hair and Beauty Warehouse Raceview, Hawley, CaronLab, Kryalon Cosmetics and Gelish.
