The Girls Football Program provides coaching
& development for all girls in the sport of rugby union, rugby league, AFL and touch football; providing competition in these sports against other schools and touring teams. The program corresponds with Regional and State DO’s, participating in talent identification programs and assisting students in reaching their potential in their chosen sport.
Junior Girls Football Program
Year 7 & 8 students are able to select the Girls Football Program as a subject. The Girls Football Program has a strong practical focus, with emphasis on developing leadership and teamwork skills, while learning about fitness and nutritional values significant to improving overall player performances.
Senior Girls Football Program
Years 7-12 students are invited to compete in organised competitions coached by qualified staff and coordinated by industry experts. (Brisbane Broncos Challenge Cup, NAIDOC Cup, CISSSA, Ballymore 7’s, Brisbane Lions AFL Cup, City vs Surf Schoolgirls Rugby Union 7’s, exhibition matches) Training is held during designated lunch breaks and after school in preparation for specific tournaments.
Partnerships
The Girls Football Program has established partnerships with the NRL, QRU & AFL and assists in the implementation of school based programs. These oranisations help provide coaching clinics and support for staff and students.
Selective students are invited to gain qualifications in Leaguesafe and Level 1 Coaching accreditation through the Queensland Government’s Get Active Accreditation Program. Identified players are invited to attend QRL Training camps and Representative carnivals, vying for selection to Representative teams. These include u12 Met West Schoolgirls, u16 SEQ Rep teams, ARU u18 Development squads & AFL Schoolgirls Development squads.
