The Ipswich State High School's Dance Program is endorsed by the Department of Education and Training as a Program of Excellence. Students living outside of the school catchment area may be eligible for enrolment upon meeting the eligibility criteria for this program. See the enrolment page for information on this application process.
The Dance Excellence Program offers a variety of curricular and extracurricular opportunities for dance enthusiasts and gifted students in dance.
Junior Dance Excellence Program
Year 7 and 8 students are able to select Dance Performance as a subject. This is an inclusive course where students are streamed into classes based on experience level. Dance Performance has a strong practical and performance focus and is embedded with a dance literacy program. This class is open for anyone with any level of experience.
Students in years 7, 8 and 9 are able to perform as part of our Junior Dance Excellence Team at local competitions and Arts events. This is an extracurricular group run on Wednesday afternoons and open to anyone with a passion for dance.
Senior Dance Excellence Program
The Senior Dance Excellence Program has a strong industry focus, providing students with access to high quality training and certificate qualifications in dance. Ipswich SHS is currently the only school in the Metropolitan Region to offer both CUA20120 Certificate II in Dance (year 10) and CUA30120 Certificate III in Dance (years 11 and 12). Students enrolled in our certificate program make up our Senior Dance Excellence Team who compete and perform regularly in a range of dance events across South East Queensland. We also offer Dance in years 11 and 12 for students completing an ATAR course.
